22jun7:00 pm8:00 pmNaturalist Hour - River Herring Conservation in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed

Event Details

Dr. Mathew Ogburn, Smithsonian Environmental Research Center Senior Scientist, will share the amazing life history of river herring! Each spring, millions of river herring swim from the ocean to spawn in streams throughout the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. While that sounds like a lot of fish, their current numbers are only a small fraction of the vast populations that used to arrive annually. Come learn about the incredible river herring, what we know about their history in the Chesapeake Bay, and the technology that’s helping us figure out how to bring more of them back.
