Updated March 17, 2020

Based on yesterday’s directive from the White House and CDC, the Audubon Naturalist Society now moves to Stage 4 of our Covid-19 Strategy. Today, we will take the additional step of suspending all operations through March 29, 2020 and will re-evaluate at that time based on government guidance.

This means adult outdoor classes and volunteer activities will now be cancelled through March 29th. Our offices and Naturalist Shop will close at 5 pm today, but the talented ANS staff will remain busy working remotely to deliver our mission work, creating virtual programs, planning new classes and field trips and staying in touch with you.

The grounds of Woodend Nature Sanctuary and Rust Nature Sanctuary will remain open to the public. We encourage you to visit our sanctuaries (the wildflowers are smashing!) and to respect social distancing while you are here. You may wish to wipe down picnic tables before use, or better yet, bring your own picnic blankets from home.

If you have registered for an outdoor program scheduled between today and March 29, 2020 you will receive an email about program credits and refunds. I encourage you to consider donating your registration fees to ANS as we face the additional financial hardship that suspending operations will cause at ANShome.org/donate. Please email Woodend@anshome.org with any questions.

General Safety Guidelines

  • Please stay home when you are sick! We are also asking our staff and instructors to stay home if they are ill.

  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based sanitizers to clean hands.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze (both mouth and nose) with a tissue, immediately discard that tissue into the trash, and wash your hands after coughing or sneezing. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow, not your hands.

  • Minimize person-to-person contact. ANS employees will greet visitors with a smile and hello, rather than a handshake, hug or high five and we ask program participants to do the same.
